sensitive content warning: The book and movie candidly display and talk about topics that are relatable to girls aged 10–14 years old, and is an honest portrayal of growing up. Both mediums  include explicit discussions about menstruation, breast development, peer pressure and religious identity, which may prompt questions and discussions about personal beliefs and body changes. There are brief references to Playboy magazine, female/male anatomy, and truth or dare kissing.

The movie is confronting and yet comforting, awkward and yet full of truth, and an honestly endearing coming-of-age story for mothers and daughters to share.
